The Alpharetta City Council has approved two consulting contracts totaling more than $602,000 to develop construction plans for the Alpha Loop trail network

POND & Co. will be paid $376,190 to develop plans for the Loop behind the AMLI apartment complex and a tunnel beneath Westside Parkway. Pedestrian bridges, park spaces, locations for public art and other enhancements are depicted in the Loop master plan for this area.

Alta Planning & Design will be paid $226,525 to develop plans for the Northwinds section. It must find a solution to safely cross Kimball Bridge Road (a conventional pedestrian crosswalk with traffic signal “is not an appropriate solution,” a staff report to council says).

“Alta will start their design where POND stops their design coming from under the tunnel at Westside Parkway,” staff says. Alta also will have to coordinate with a third consultant, AECOM, which is designing the widening of Kimball Bridge in this area.

The two design assignments are expected to take nine months to complete.

The Alpha Loop consists of an Inner Loop connecting the city center to the Avalon and Northwinds developments, and an Outer Loop running along Haynes Bridge and Webb Bridge roads and the Ga. 400 expressway.
