A final decision is still a ways down the road, but serious interest is emerging in a city of Alpharetta bond referendum in 2016 aimed at funding various capital improvement projects.

During Monday night’s city council meeting, Mayor David Belle Isle said that a series of workshops will be held during subsequent meetings covering potential public works, transportation and other initiatives that could be included, with public input invited.

While no project list or ranking has been finalized, Assistant City Administrator James Drinkard said potential examples include improvements to Rucker Road and other transportation corridors, renovations at Wills Park, a new adult activities center on the east side of Ga. 400 and extension of the Alpharetta Greenway.

Drinkard said one matter up for future debate will be whether to include storm water improvement projects in the bond issue, or leave them as a part of the city’s annual operational budget.

City officials said if a bond issue is approved, the bonds would be paid back from the debt service portion of the city’s millage rate.
