The Alpharetta City Council tweaked downtown parking enforcement again Monday night.
The city instituted timed parking effective July 6 on several core city thoroughfares and on a 60-space downtown central parking lot on Old Roswell Street. Last night, council members reversed course and abolished most time limits in the central lot. Now, only one row of spaces closest to retail businesses will carry a three-hour maximum. The council took the action after downtown office tenants complained that they needed non-limited spots for all-day parking.
The week-old time restrictions governing parking on Milton Avenue, plus Canton, Roswell and Old Roswell streets were instituted to make it easier for downtown customers to find parking in front of businesses by driving employee parking elsewhere. The city said it will start enforcing the limits Aug. 31 after posting signage and hiring enforcement officers.
