About 8,800 linear feet of deteriorated sidewalks in Alpharetta will be broken up and replaced with new concrete panels, and handicapped ramps will be updated, as part of the city’s FY 2020 sidewalk plan.

The City Council recently awarded a $450,850 contract to DAF Concrete Inc., which submitted the lowest of five bids for the work. The project aims to replace sidewalks rendered unsafe by cracking and uplift due to weather, tree roots, vehicular traffic and general wear and tear.

“This project focuses along both the north and south sides of Old Milton Parkway in front of Wills Park, along the south side of Milton Avenue from Wills Road to the stream, and along the east side of Haynes Bridge Road between Georgia Lane and the Greenway access parking lot,” staff said in a report to the council.

New sidewalk panels will include reinforced sections near Wills Park. The work is to be completed no more than 60 days from the notice to proceed, staff said.
