A $473,600 design contract for the reconstruction of Kimball Bridge Road has been approved by the Alpharetta City Council.
AECOM, an engineering and consulting firm, will do the studies, participate in public open houses and prepare construction documents for the project, aimed to ease rush-hour traffic congestion between North Point Parkway and Waters Road. The consultant’s work is expected to take 13 months to complete.
Initial plans envision two eastbound lanes with a shared bike lane in the outermost travel lane; a westbound lane with an in-road bike lane; landscaping; sidewalks 6 to 8 feet wide, and auxiliary turn lanes.
The existing bridge over Big Creek will be restriped to allow for two eastbound and one westbound lane. Plans also call for a new trail connection to the Big Creek Greenway from the north side of Kimball Bridge.
