Alpharetta officials said the city’s 911 center has been accredited by the International Academy of Emergency Dispatch for an additional three-year period. Center supervisor Shawna Pope picked up the award on behalf of the city at the recent IAED convention in Washington DC.

City officials said the center is accredited both nationally and internationally as a Center of Excellence, one of only 167 centers worldwide to earn the designation.

The city’s website said the center handles more than 65,000 calls per year on both emergency and non0-emergency lines, and dispatched more than 8,400 fire calls and in excess of 28,000 police calls in 2014.
