Acworth approves list for SPLOST 2022 projects

The Acworth Board of Aldermen recently approved a list of SPLOST 2022 projects for the city if Cobb County voters approve SPLOST 2022 on Nov. 3.

For another six years, Cobb voters will be asked to renew the one-cent Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) when it expires at the end of 2021.

To cover those six years, the expected SPLOST revenue for Acworth would be about $24 million, according to Alex Almodovar, assistant to Acworth City Manager Brian Bulthuis, in an email to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Those projects are:

  • $6.6 million for major road projects, including West Lakeshore Drive, Summit Circle, Old Cherokee Street, Brookhaven Subdivision - Phase I, North Main (Enclave Subdivision to County Line), Academy Street (Dixie Avenue to Beach Street) and Beach Street Realignment
  • $6 million for miscellaneous paving and equipment
  • $1 million for miscellaneous storm water
  • $500,000 for miscellaneous sidewalk
  • $250,000 for federal, state and local match
  • $500,000 for public parking improvements
  • $890,517 for city facility upgrades and expansion
  • $500,000 for citywide technology infrastructure improvements
  • $2.5 million for public safety, including vehicles, facility improvements, 800 MHz radio upgrades, body cameras and in-car technology upgrades
  • $2.2 million for parks, including Cauble Park improvements, Old Highway 92 Pedestrian Bridge/Overlook Park and trail development
  • $3 million for a joint county/city project - Acworth/Due West/Ragsdale Road and sidewalk
