Henry County leaders have updated a transportation plan that will serve as a road map for the county and its four cities over the next two decades.
The commission approved the updated Joint Henry County/Cities Comprehensive Transportation Plan earlier this month. The plan, which is financed through the Atlanta Regional Commission, deals with the transportation needs of the county as well as Locust Grove, Hampton, McDonough and Stockbridge through 2040.
The goal of the updated plan is to:
- enhance mobility and improve accessibility for people and goods throughout the county and its cities.
- reinforce growth patterns.
- protect and improve the county’s and cities’ environmental quality.
- ensure coordination among the planning and development activities of the county, its cities and other involved organizations.
The plan also contains a list of preliminary transit needs such as linking local activity center for local, non-work trips, future regional connections and the need for alternative mode options for trips between McDonough and Stockbridge. It also calls for making pedestrian and ADA accomodations a priority along future proposed transit routes.
