In Gwinnett County, Republican incumbent Lynette Howard defeated Democratic challenger Jaime “Jay” Trevari for the District 2 commission seat.

Howard said she is “very grateful” for the opportunity to serve another term. In recent years, Gwinnett has lost three commissioners who left office in the wake of various scandals; one of them is in federal prison. Howard said she is pleased voters had confidence in her ethics and her efforts to improve transparency in county government.

“I’m glad my constituents really believe me,” she said. “I’m excited for the next four years.”

Howard said her priorities in her next term include senior housing, redevelopment and alternative means of transportation around the county.

Trevari said she knew a victory was a long shot in what is still a largely Republican county, but that her goal was to bring issues to light. If current leaders pay more attention to diversity and the representation in unincorporated areas, she said, “I’ll kind of feel like I won.”
