Financially-struggling families in Clayton, Fayette and Henry counties can get help this winter with their heating bills through the federally-funded Low-Income Home Energy Assisant Program or LIHEAP. The program is free and provides a one-time payment toward the primary heating source for families who qualify. The program helps with starting new service, stopping disconnections and delivering propane gas. The program may also help pay account balances that are current.

Applications are being accepted for seniors 65 and older on a first-come, first-serve basis.The general public may apply Jan. 4.

Residents may schedule an appointment at Clayton County Community Services Authority Inc., 1000 Main St. in Forest Park, during the week from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Applicants should bring the following documents: driver’s license or photo ID and original social security cards, current heating and electric bills, proof of income for the last month.
