Gwinnett County will spend north of $900,000 to convert a former library branch into a “parks activity building.”

Gwinnett's Board of Commissioners approved last week the $936,886 contract to renovate the building at 788 Hillcrest Road in Lilburn, which has been empty since the library branch relocated to that city's new city hall complex on Main Street.

The old building will be renovated to include “a classroom, a community room with a catering kitchen, a dance studio, new restrooms and storage space,” county officials said in a news release.

“I’m glad we can repurpose the old building to continue serving the community with opportunities for recreation and fellowship,” Commissioner Lynette Howard said. “Like many parks facilities, the new spaces will also be available to rent for private functions.”

The contract approved by the BOC calls for a new roof, flooring and lighting, as well as landscaping, sidewalk and parking improvements.
