When it comes to the idea of density — more homes in less space — Gwinnett County has traditionally been skittish.

But in a Thursday redevelopment forum in Duluth, Gwinnett Chairman Charlotte Nash assured developers and others that leaders’ feelings about density were progressing.

“We have said it out loud at planning discussions,” she said, encouraging developers to consider such projects, which she said could be catalysts for the county.

Nash also said she is considering “all types of transportation” for Gwinnett.

“We’ll look at what the future needs of the county are, and move in that direction,” she said.

Audience members clapped later that day when Harold Shumacher, president of the Shumacher Group, said he thought the county had to “jump on the MARTA bandwagon as early as possible.”

Presenters talked about projects they have in the works, like an expansion of the Infinite Energy Center, and those that they’d like to move forward, like plans for more than 700 condos and townhomes around Lawrenceville’s downtown.
