Gwinnett County property owners who wanted to pay their taxes in person were told in the past that they had to go home to use their credit or debit cards online. At the counter, it was checks or cash.

Now, six new kiosks in the county’s tag offices and at the courthouse complex mean people can pay their in-person property taxes by credit or debit.

Paying by cash or check (or e-check, online) is free of charge. The cards have fees — a 2.29 percent service charge for credit cards and a $3.95 flat fee for debit cards.

The kiosks “will add another convenient way to pay,” Gwinnett Tax Commissioner Richard Steele said in a statement. A spokesperson for the department said people often came in wanting to pay with cards, but were unable to.

Property tax bills are due Oct. 15.
