Fulton County commissioners agreed Wednesday to pay $2.1 million to settle a lawsuit regarding improper payments to pension funds.

Fulton County Attorney Patrise Perkins-Hooker said in some years, individuals enrolled in the county’s pension plan should have received payments for 27 weeks, but only received 26 weeks worth of contributions. Others, she said, received more than they should have.

The county will contribute $1.68 million to 186 people who were underpaid, a figure that includes interest and a cost of living increase. Some employees were overpaid, and their future payments will be adjusted downwards. Fulton County will not get back the money that was overpaid.

The remainder of the settlement will go to attorneys’ and other fees.

Fulton County lately has settled several lawsuits related to employees' pay.
