An historic monument will reopen in Jonesboro next month.
A barbecue will be held Oct. 3 to celebrate the reopening of The Clayton County History Center which has been closed since 2012 due to damage caused by a clogged roof drain. The 146-year-old brick building once housed Clayton County’s jail. The building, which was built four years after the Civil War ended, is owned by Historical Jonesboro and is home to numerous city and county historical memorabilia, including “Gone With The Wind” items. It also contains the history of the Jonesboro police department.
The barbecue will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Jonesboro Firehouse Museum at 103 W. Mill St in Jonesoboro. Tickets are $8 which covers the meal and a tour of the History Center. Tickets can be purchased at Jonesboro City Hall, Stately Oaks and the Firehouse Museum. The History Center is at 125 King St. in Jonesboro.
