Captain Kenneth Phelps of Maxwell High School of Technology has been named the A. Scott Crossfield Aerospace Education Teacher of the Year. He was awarded a $5,000 cash stipend and an all-expenses-paid trip for two to Dayton, Ohio, where he was presented with the award at the National Aviation Hall of Fame annual enshrinement dinner. Phelps said, "I enjoy sharing my passion for aviation with students of the new Aircraft Flight Operations Program at Maxwell High School of Technology. Aviation offers many areas to pursue a rewarding profession, and I welcome the opportunity to mentor and motivate students to develop an interest in and appreciation of aviation and flight operations." The award, presented annually by the National Aviation Hall of Fame, is named after A. Scott Crossfield, the first man to successfully fly at speeds above Mach 2 and Mach 3, and the first man to fly the North American X-15.
