Fulton County Schools outperformed the state and nation on the ACT test. The composite score for Fulton students was 23.7, which is down slightly from last year’s 23.8.

The ACT is an multiple-choice entrance exam across multiple subjects used by most colleges and universities to make admissions decisions.

Fulton’s 2018 score of 23. 7 is higher than the Georgia state composite score of 21.4. The U.S. score for this year was 20.8.

Of the district’s 18 high schools, Alpharetta High School, Banneker High School, Cambridge High School, Chattahoochee High School, Hapeville Career Charter, Johns Creek High School, Milton High School and Roswell High School all had increases in composite scores in 2018.

There were some other gains as well. Six schools increased the percentage of students meeting benchmarks in 2018. They are Alpharetta High School, Banneker High School, Cambridge High School, Creekside High School, Milton High School and Roswell High School. The benchmarks are scores on the ACT subject-area tests that represent the level of achievement required for students to have a 50 percent chance of obtaining a B or higher, or about a 75 percent chance of obtaining a C or higher, in corresponding credit-bearing first-year college courses.

The number of Fulton students taking the ACT also increased slightly this year, from 3,728 in 2017 to 3,736 in 2018.
