A search is underway for a suspect after two friends were shot early Sunday in a popular area of Buckhead, according to authorities.

Atlanta police responded about 2:50 a.m. to a person shot call outside NRG ATL nightclub on Peachtree Road in Buckhead Village. The club is next to a Trader Joe’s grocery store and the Buckhead Exchange shopping mall.

When officers arrived, they were alerted to a side parking lot of the grocery store, where they found a man shot in the stomach and another man suffering from gunshot wounds to his leg. The victims, who were not publicly identified, were alert when they were taken to a hospital.

According to investigators, the men witnessed a fight and tried to break it up. The suspect, who police said was involved in the fight, then pulled out a handgun and started shooting at them. The shooter ran away and has not been identified.

“(It) appears the initial incident occurred in front of Trader Joe’s near the driveway,” police said. There was a large police presence after the shooting, and caution tape surrounded the parking lot.

An investigation is ongoing.
