The 15-year-old was stable when he was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound in his leg Tuesday night, police said.

A 15-year-old boy was shot Tuesday night when he and his 18-year-old brother went to speak with a group lingering outside their East Lake apartment, police said.

The victim told Atlanta police he knew at least one of the people hanging out near his apartment building on Hillside Village Drive, which is part of the Villages at East Lake complex off Glenwood Avenue in southeast Atlanta.

“The suspects struck his brother in the face with a pistol and snatched his phone,” police spokesman Investigator James White said in a statement. “As they fled the complex, the suspects turned around and fired one shot.”

The 15-year-old was hit in the leg, White said. He was stable when authorities arrived around 11:30 p.m. to take him to Grady Memorial Hospital.

The boy said he thought the shooter was his acquaintance, who was not identified by police Wednesday.

The incident is still under investigation, White said.
