The Odessa Police Department posted a news release to its Facebook page Tuesday afternoon saying that Kalynn Homfeld, 41, was arrested on a charge of theft from a human corpse.

The ring was made out of plastic and had a worth of $10.

It was meant to symbolize the deceased, Lois Hicks', devotion to her husband who, died three years before her.

Lois Hicks died Thursday at 88 years old, according to her daughter, Vel McKee.

According to the Odessa American Online, information from tipsters calling in led to police naming Homfeld as a suspect following an investigation.

KWES reported that a guilty charge could lead to 2 years in prison.
