A pharmacist fought off three women who attempted to rob his DeKalb County pharmacy at gunpoint, Channel 2 Action News reported.
Mba Kalu was at PCI Pharmacy about 3:30 p.m. April 24 when the three women walked inside the North Decatur Road location.
“I was helping (one of the women) because she said she wanted a prescription,” Kalu told Channel 2. “I was just waiting for her to pull the prescription out, and instead of her prescription, she pulled out a gun. So, I just had to react.”
Video of the attempted robbery showed Kalu grab the gun from the woman, Channel 2 reported. At the same time, another woman pepper-sprayed him.
“It's either they shoot you or you're going to have to fight them," Kalu said. "I thought, you know, I'm not going to go down like that. At least I have to go down fighting.”
When Kalu took the gun, the women ran out of the pharmacy and drove off in a silver or gray older-model car with damage to the right front fender and panel, Channel 2 reported.
This is the second attempted robbery since Kalu opened the store in June, Channel 2 reported. In December, three masked men came in carrying guns.
“In this field, it's something anticipated because of ongoing opioid abuse," Kalu said.
Kalu’s daughter was inside the pharmacy during the April 24 attempted robbery. He said he plans to tighten security by keeping the door locked and purchasing gun and bulletproof windows for the pharmacy.
