The man who was fatally shot Tuesday at a gas station in Gwinnett County has been identified, police said.

John Chambers, 58, of Lawrenceville, died after being shot in the chest at the Exxon station at Lawrenceville Highway and Oakland Road, police said.

Police also said Jason Lance, 34, of Grayson, was released after questioning.

Authorities are working to determine whether this was self-defense.

Two men got into a fight shortly after the person believed to have been the shooter stopped to fix a flat tire, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported. The person who did the shooting waited for police to arrive.

Witnesses told police the men were fighting over the same woman and one of the men punched the other. Investigators found a handgun on the hood of a Jeep, Channel 2 Action News reported.

The investigation is ongoing.
