A police officer in Chattanooga was shot multiple times Thursday morning, according to a report in the Chattanooga Times Free Press.
The injuries were non-life-threatening, Chattanooga police Chief Fred Fletcher said.
About 9:20 a.m., the officer was checking out an abandoned house when a man left the building and turned back to fire at the officer. Fletcher said he did not know a specific reason the officer was checking out the house.
“A lot of bad stuff goes on in abandoned houses,” he said. “We check them regularly. That is just good community policing.”
Agents from the FBI and the Drug Enforcement Administration are helping search for the shooter.
“Our primary concern is taking this violent bad guy off the street,” Fletcher said.
