Three cops resign, accused of forcing man to eat marijuana during traffic stop

Three Phoenix police officers have resigned in the midst of a criminal and internal police investigation after a teen driver alleges the cops forced him to eat marijuana during a traffic stop.

The incident happened Sept. 13, according to AZCentral. The 19-year-old man who filed the complaint said that after he was stopped for a traffic violation, officers found marijuana in his car.

The man said that the officers ordered him to eat the marijuana or he would be taken to jail. He consumed the pot and was released after receiving a ticket.

Richard Pina, Jason McFadden and Michael Carnicle were identified by the Phoenix Police Department as the officers involved in the incident, according to Reuters. If they had not resigned, Yahner said he planned on firing them. A police spokesman said that Pina and McFadden could face criminal charges. Carnicle was at the scene but did not participate in the incident. The officers' supervisor has been demoted.
