A man turned himself in to authorities on Monday without incident hours after barricading himself inside the Maryland National Guard facility in Glen Arm, Maryland.

No injuries were reported.

Baltimore County police confirmed the barricaded man was a soldier but declined to release additional information on his identity, referring any such questions to the National Guard.

Around 11 a.m., Army personnel spotted the intruder in a building that also houses the National Guard's armory, said Baltimore County police spokeswoman Elise Armacost. Despite initial reports, the man did not have access to the armory.

"The weaponry, the munitions, are in the armory," Armacost said. "That facility is protected by code, as one would expect. He does not have access to that facility. … That is a secure vault."

The man was alone and the building empty when he barricaded himself. It was not immediately clear how or why he got into the facility.

Police sent negotiators and a tactical team to the National Guard facility "because of the sensitivity of this facility," Armacost said.

Around 2:30 p.m., authorities took the man into custody. He was expected to undergo an emergency psychological evaluation Monday afternoon.

"He came out of the building of his own accord," Armacost said. "He is not injured, no one else was injured, he was not harmed."

Charges against the man were pending on Monday afternoon. Armacost expected they would at a minimum include one count of trespassing, although she did not name any other possible charges against the man.
