A public health exercise that was to have been held later this month has been delayed following the coronavirus outbreak in Georgia. Agencies that were scheduled to participate in the March 26 drill are instead focused on coronavirus response.

Gov. Brian Kemp announced the state's first two confirmed cases at a hastily arranged Monday night news conference.

Planning for the practice exercise, involving the Georgia Department of Public Health Northwest Health District, Metro Atlanta Ambulance Service, Georgia State Patrol and numerous law enforcement and first responder agencies in Paulding County, began in 2018.

It was meant to “test their ability to assist public health quickly distribute medication to the entire population of Paulding County in the event of a public health emergency,” the Paulding Sheriff’s Office said previously.

A rescheduled date for the public health drill has not yet been scheduled.
