Atlanta police were searching an area roughly the size of two football fields after a man was shot and killed in east Atlanta Saturday night.
Sammy Watson, 20, was found dead behind a fence near the former Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School at Hosea L. Williams Drive and Woodbine Avenue, Channel 2 Action News reported.
Police were called about 5:45 p.m. Saturday and found no witnesses, but family members told Channel 2 Watson was with family members near his Edgewood home shortly before the shooting.
Evidence in Watson’s death could be spread across a large open area and officers searched with helicopters and police dogs.
Atlanta homicide spokesman Major Adam Lee told Channel 2 police don’t have much to go on yet.
“We’re hoping we’ll have some witnesses and if anyone is aware of what happened, we urge them to call Crime Stoppers and remain anonymous,” Lee said.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-8477, text information to 274637 or visit crimestoppersatlanta.org. Tipsters can also remain anonymous and be eligible for rewards of up to $2,000.
