A Florida man who was being called the “Barefoot Burglar” was arrested Thursday, according to Miami Beach Police.
John Carlos Cairo, 19, was charged with two counts of burglary after breaking into a home as a family slept inside, police said.
According to WTVJ, Cairo burglarized the family's Bentley car before entering the home and removing his shoes. Inside the home at the time were a husband, a wife and two small children. The couple woke to see Cairo standing over them in their bedroom.
A police report said Cairo fled the house but left his shoes on the couch. He was arrested shortly after leaving the home.
When taken into a police interview room, police said, Cairo attempted to escape through the roof.
Police are investigating whether Cairo may be responsible for other burglaries. He was also arrested on drug-related charges on Tuesday.
Cairo was being held at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami.
