Like her husband, the mother of a Walton County infant who is on life support has been jailed on a child cruelty charge, records show.

The child, who is 2 months old, is on life support at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston, according to the arrest warrant for Jamie Cason Whited. A “pattern of physical abuse” of the child was noted in the warrant.

Jamie Whited was booked into the Walton County jail early Saturday. An arrest warrant for her was issued by Walton County Magistrate Court, and was obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. No bond has been set.

The infant's father, Justin Lee Whited, was arrested last Sunday and has been charged with aggravated battery and cruelty to children. He is in the Walton County jail in lieu of $60,000 cash bond.

The infant has cranial and internal bleeding, multiple posterior rib fractures, and multiple fractures of the right and left clavicles, according to the warrant for the mother. Doctors told investigators that the injuries were the result of “force trauma” and likely had occurred over several weeks.

Jamie Whited told investigators that she saw the child with injuries such as black eyes, a forehead bruise and a knot on her head in mid-March, but did not seek treatment until later.

Monroe police have referred the case to the state Division of Family and Children’s Services.

Police became involved just before 9 p.m. on April 23. Officers responded to a report of an unresponsive infant at a home in the 300 block of Mobley Circle in Monroe, authorities said.

After treatment at a Monroe hospital, the child was flown to Egleston.
