A Gwinnett County mother is still shaken after she said a man attempted to lure her children from a Walmart in Snellville two weeks ago.

“I had my back turned and he came up and tried to speak to my daughter when I wasn’t looking,” Kristy Campbell said in an interview with Channel 2 Action News. “When I turned back, I saw him trying to talk to her.”

The family was in the store on the 2900 block of West Main Street when the man followed them for about 30 minutes, according to a Snellville police report.

"The man came up and was whispering to them: ‘Come over here,’ ‘hold the watermelons,’ ‘come over here and feel the smooth watermelon,’” Campbell said.

Campbell told Channel 2 she was uncomfortable but too scared to confront the man.

“If someone is trying to lure your children away,” she said, “you don’t know if they’re carrying weapons.”

She eventually filed a report with police, who said Campbell’s daughter managed to draw a sketch of what the suspect looked like. Detectives said they are reviewing surveillance footage of the incident.

In a statement to Channel 2, Walmart officials said they “work to create a safe atmosphere for all of our customers and take these reports seriously. We’re currently working with Snellville Police to validate the claim."
