A 59-year-old man reported missing by his brother was found in frigid temperatures in a ditch near his Gwinnett County home, police said Thursday.

About noon Wednesday, Tim Franklin called 911. He told police his brother, Keith Franklin, had not been seen since a family meal Tuesday night.

When Keith Franklin did not come over for breakfast, Tim Franklin searched Keith Franklin’s home in the 1700 block of Drowning Creek Drive in Dacula and a wooded area between their homes, Gwinnett police Cpl. Michele Pihera said.

Police searched the area as rain and sleet fell and temperatures dipped into the low 30s.

Several agencies participated in the search, and a Mattie’s Call, used for reporting a missing elderly person, was issued, Pihera said.

“About two hours after the initial call, officers … found Keith face down in a ditch along the roadway,” Pihera said. “He was alive but in distress from being stuck in the ditch overnight.”

He was taken to Athens Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
