Fairburn police have arrested a juvenile on charges of beating a church worker with a baseball bat earlier this month.
The youth, who was not identified because of his age, was charged with aggravated assault, criminal attempt armed robbery and cruelty to children third degree, Fairburn police spokesman Det. Sgt. Anthony Bazydlo said Monday.
He was in custody at the Metro Youth Detention Center.
Martha Emory, 52, suffered scratches and bruises in the attack at the Fairburn United Methodist Church on Nov. 12. She let her attacker inside her office to use the phone, but he then tried to rob her, Emory told police.
Her attacker demanded the keys to a car, which was parked in the lot, but she told him it was not her car and she did not have the keys. He then fled.
During the attack, Emory’s baby slept in a crib nearby but was not hurt. The mother needed 10 stitches for a gash in her head.
