A Whitfield County man endangered people by posting what he claimed was a list of law enforcement informants on Facebook, a sheriff’s official said.

The post, which was found Saturday, used the sheriff's office website header and was designed to look like a letter from a narcotics deputy to Sheriff Scott Chitwood, the Dalton Daily Citizen reported.

Sheriff’s Lt. Paul Woods said those on the fake list could be targets for retribution from someone who might have been arrested based on confidential sources.

“We don’t even keep lists like that in digital form,” Woods said. “Some of the people that are on the list have never had any dealings with our narcotics unit.”

Ermon “Bud” Mulkey III was arrested on charges of forgery, computer crimes, reckless conduct and identity fraud, sheriff’s officials said. He is awaiting a bond hearing.

The sheriff’s office has contacted Facebook to try to have the post taken down.
