Weather forecasters called for 100 percent chance of rain Friday and were 100 percent dead-on. The sometimes violent storms brought about 1.5 inches of rain to Atlanta and was the second highest rainfall total so far this year.

For Saturday and Sunday, they predicted glorious weather and so far, so good.

“It’s perfect today,” said Brian Monahan, a meterologist for Channel 2, Action News. “With all that’s going on this weekend, The Dogwood Festival and the Braves, you can’t beat it.”

He said humidity is low and temperatures will top out in the 70s today and Sunday, with rain coming late Sunday. Monday will be raining again.

Friday’s cloudburst brought to a halt the festivities to the large arts festival at Piedmont Park.

Dogwood Festival executive director Brian Hill said that first storm came through after 6 p.m. and knocked over a few tents. “It hit us good last night,” he said. Organizers later called off the fest fior the day because of the persistent rain.

Saturday, it was quite the different story, as crowds poured in to the Dogwood Fest from all over.

The Braves, too, pushed back their start Friday until about 9 p.m. and pulled out a victory late in the evening.

More than 11,000 Georgia Power customers were without electricity for several hours, mostly in the east Atlanta and central DeKalb County area. All but a couple dozen homes were back Saturday.
