A former city of Fairburn employee used a city-issued credit card to buy a psychic website and for other unauthorized purchases, according to authorities.
Brad Williams, 49, a former information technology director, was sentenced to five years’ probation and ordered to pay $17,500 in restitution after pleading guilty to using the city-issued credit card.
Williams, 49, pleaded guilty to five counts of false statements on Monday, according to Yvette Jones, spokeswoman for Fulton County District Attorney Paul L. Howard, Jr.
Investigators said Williams used the city credit card to make unauthorized web-related purchases — including the acquisition of a psychic website and computer software for his personal businesses. Williams would then disguise his fraudulent purchases as legitimate on his monthly requisition forms, Jones said.
City officials became suspicious of Williams in 2009 after discovering the “P-card” purchase of a video sharing website from a seller in Turkey. That discovery triggered an investigation into Williams’ purchasing history which revealed he had been making fraudulent purchases dating to 2005.
As a condition of his plea agreement, Williams is not allowed to hold a government position while on probation. His restitution must be made to city officials by the end of May 2013, Jones said.
