Enraged driver allegedly grabbed, threw cell phone into traffic

A Johns Creek man got into a shouting match with another driver, leading the man to throw the driver’s cell phone into ongoing traffic.

Police charged Theodore Estes with robbery and reckless driving after he confronted a man he thought was texting while driving, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Estes was upset with Craig Free, who stopped abruptly after spilling coffee on himself.

“Instead of pulling [my car] over like I should have,” Free told Channel 2. “I was trying to clean it up as I was driving and probably swerved a little bit and slowed down.”

That may have been what upset Estes, he said.

When Estes stepped out of his van, he approached Free’s car, snatched his phone out his hand and threw it in the street.

“I wasn’t expecting that,” Free told the news station. “I thought he’d say a few words, get back in his van and drive off.”

An off-duty officer saw the incident and managed to write down Estes’ tag.

Free managed to take a few pictures of Estes as he approached his car. Still, Free wishes Estes had second-guessed himself.

“Think about things before you jump to conclusions and let your emotions get the best of you.”

Police told Channel 2 Estes admitted to the charges and is out on bond.
