“It’s probable that the drone couldn’t hold the weight of the cargo, and that’s why it fell,” a police statement said.
It crashed in a parking lot two miles from the US border.
Mexican police believe the drone was too small to carry the drugs into America. Instead, they think this little craft carried drugs from neighborhood to neighborhood.
Amy Roderick with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration told the San Diego Union-Tribune drug drones are not a likely threat to this country.
“This method will only allow a small amount of drugs to be flown at a time,” she began.
Roderick continued, “That, coupled with the ease of detection, does not make this method very profitable to these drug-trafficking organizations whose motivation is money.”
Security expert David Shirk disagrees.
“This is a potentially new threat” he noted. “If it can be useful and productive, organized-crime groups will find a way.”
