A woman is dead after a fire at a duplex in north Hall County on Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

Firefighters responded to the 100 block of Clarks Bridge Road to find the duplex engulfed in flames and heavy smoke, Hall County Fire Services Division Chief Zach Brackett said.

The body of 73-year-old Janis Gilman was found inside the home after a search, he said.

Another person living in the duplex was displaced as a result of the fire and will be staying with friends, Brackett said.

The cause of the fire is unknown. An investigation is underway.
