Police are searching for a teenager they say led them on a high-speed chase through Duluth on Saturday afternoon before abandoning his pickup truck with some important paperwork inside.
Officers tried to pull over 18-year-old David Quintanar after he was spotted driving 64 mph in a 45 mph zone along Pleasant Hill Road, police said
Quintanar pulled into a Walmart parking lot like he was stopping before accelerating and leading police on a chase through traffic at speeds as fast as 90 mph, Channel 2 Action News reported.
Officers eventually called off the chase for the safety of other motorists.
Police said they weren’t sure why Quintanar took off in his pickup until they realized he was wanted in two Georgia counties as well as one in Florida. Authorities said Quintanar was wanted on weapons and obstruction charges in Gwinnett, in Walton County on drugs and obstruction charges, and in Florida for traffic violations.
Dashcam footage appears to show the driver of the truck toss something out of the window while crossing a railroad track with officers in pursuit.
“Later, after the chase, they went to the location and found marijuana residue and drug paraphernalia,” Duluth police spokesman Officer Ted Sadowski said.
Police said they later found the pickup abandoned in some woods along with paperwork they were able to use to identify Quintanar as their suspect.
“Inside the truck was Gwinnett County jail property records,” Sadowski said. “His picture was along with the document ... It wasn’t bright on his end but it was great for us to know who the driver was.”
Anyone who knows Quintanar’s whereabouts is asked to contact Duluth police at 770-476-4151.
