A Gainesville man and woman were arrested Thursday after allegedly leaving their 9-month-old baby on the side of the road during an argument, authorities said.

Just after 2 p.m. Thursday, a clerk at a convenience store in the Rabbittown community called 911 to report she found a baby in a car seat on the side of Old Cornelia Highway, Hall County sheriff’s Deputy Nicole Bailes said.

The boy was strapped in the car seat and had a bottle and a jar of Vaseline in the seat,” clerk Angela Bumbalough told Channel 2 Action News on Friday.

“Beautiful baby boy,” she said.

“The clerk secured the child and while waiting for deputies, a female entered the business and claimed that the child belonged to her,” Bailes told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution in an email.

“During the course of the investigation, it was determined that the child was left on the road as a result of a domestic dispute between the child’s mother and father,” she said.

Bailes said investigators arrested Heather Demonia, 33, and Thomas Broome, 30, and charged each with reckless conduct.

The child was not injured, and is in the custody of the Department of Family and Children Services.
