Donquell Weddington is accused of selling drugs that led to a deadly overdose.

An Atlanta drug dealer was indicted on federal heroin distribution charges after authorities say drugs he sold led to an overdose death in Buckhead.

Donquell Weddington, 24, also faces three counts disturbuting cocaine stemming from alleged drug deals in 2017 and 2018, U.S. Attorney Byung J. “BJay” Pak said in a news release.

On April 10, 2017, Weddington sold heroin to a buyer, days after negotiating the sale via telephone, Pak said.

Later that day, the buyer overdosed in the lobby of a building in Buckhead. The victim was taken to Piedmont Hospital and treated for a heroin overdose.

The buyer was released from the hospital that evening and went to Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, intending to catch a flight to New York, Pak said. But the victim collapsed and died the following morning from a heroin overdose.

Months later — on three separate occasions — Weddington continued selling heroin and cocaine, Pak said.

Weddington will be arraigned at a later date.
