Atlanta police are searching for the man who fired multiple gunshots at another vehicle on the Downtown Connector last Monday morning during a road-rage incident.
Police said at least one bullet hit the passenger door of another car, which had a 3-year-old boy inside, according to a police incident report. The woman driving her son told Channel 2 Action News she’s thankful no one was hurt.
“All of a sudden, I hear this loud bang,” the woman, who told Channel 2 to identify her as Britney, said. She added that she initially thought the loud noise was her tire, but she spotted the man pointing a handgun out the minivan.
She also wasn’t involved in the initial road-rage incident, police said.
About 10 a.m., a couple driving on I-85 South at Ga. 400 said a white Dodge Caravan driven by a man who appeared to be in his 30s or 40s merged into their lane without signaling, the incident report said. The man who had been cut off told police he honked at the Caravan, which then began to follow him.
Soon after, the Caravan’s driver fired multiple gunshots at the couple’s car while on the Downtown Connector, hitting Britney’s car in the process.
“One of those (bullets) could have hit me or my child, and it definitely could have went a much different way,” she told Channel 2.
The couple who had honked at the suspect took a picture of the minivan before the driver turned onto I-20 West, the news station reported. The Caravan appears to have a temporary tag on it.
