A registered sex offender in Atlanta was convicted of possessing child pornography for the second time, authorities said.
Michael Frost, 49, was found guilty of having porn that included images of children as young as 7 years old, U.S. Attorney BJay Pak said in a Thursday news release. This conviction comes about 17 years after he was convicted of the same crime.
Investigators found an IP address that was downloading the illegal content on the dark web and were able to track it to a physical address in Cumming, the release said. The homeowner was interviewed by agents and was found to not be involved in downloading child porn.
However, the homeowner said Frost visited his home regularly and would use his personal laptop sometimes inside his house, the release said.
A search warrant was then obtained for Frost’s address on Argonne Avenue and multiple electronic devices that contained tens of thousands of images of child porn were seized, the release said.
He had previously been convicted of possessing child pornography in 2002, which netted him three years in federal prison.

Frost, who pleaded guilty to the latest charges July 19, was sentenced to 10 years in prison followed by 10 years of supervised release. In addition, he was ordered to pay $20,000 to the victims in restitution and a special assessment of $5,100.
Frost, who was previously registered as a tier I sex offender, will now become a tier III sex offender, meaning he will have to be registered for the rest of his life. A tier I sex offender must only be registered for a minimum duration of 15 years, but the duration of Frost's prior sentence is unclear.
The investigation was conducted by the FBI, Alpharetta Police Department and Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the Atlanta Police Department.
