Cherokee county officials say Tuesday’s election saw no manpower or equipment problems, with turnout about average for a midertm vote.
Elections supervisor Kim Stancil said 52 percent of registered voters cast ballots-a total of 67,479. She said that’s a slight decrease from the 70,504 recorded four years ago.
Stancil also said mail ballots saw a sharp drop from 2010. In 2010, more than 8,000 ballots were mailed out. This year, 2688 were mailed out and 2488 were returned. She said she’s not sure what accounted for the drop.
Early voting matched up closely with 2010, with 23,725 casting ballots during the three-week early period. Tthat amounted to about 20 percent of registered voters.
