When Richard Dunn found himself trapped in Las Vegas’ McCarran International Airport overnight, he decided to tell the world how he really felt.
So, naturally, the Canton, Georgia man filmed a five-minute music video of himself lip-syncing to Celine Dion’s version of Eric Carmen’s “All By Myself.” How else would he spend his time?
The video, which depicts Dunn in dozens of settings around the airport ranging from a ticket counter to the women’s bathroom, had almost four million views on vimeo Wednesday morning.
Delta offered Dunn vouchers to be bumped off of two consecutive flights and the next available flight wasn’t until 6 a.m.
“I thought, well I don’t have enough time to go to a hotel so what do I do? I’ve got my phone and an empty movie set, lets see what trouble I can get into,” Dunn said.
Dunn searched his phone for songs about travel, but, uninspired, moved to songs about loneliness.
“And then our dear Canadian sister started streaming in my headphones, “All By Myself,’” Dunn said. “And I thought, ‘That’s it, that’s pure movie gold.’”
Dunn acquired some tape from an airport mechanic and fashioned a MacGyver-esque tripod using a his luggage bags and a ruler. When the rest of the airport’s patrons had gone home, Dunn got to work.
With the empty airport as his muse, Dunn set about fillming the emotionally-charged video, which climaxes with a shot of him falling to his knees at the base of a set of escalators, screaming that he doesn’t want to be, ‘All by myself anymore.’
“I’m just peeing myself laughing listening to this stuff thinking, ‘You’re just tired its not that funny,’” he said.
