A man trying to break into a Fayetteville home was shot and killed Sunday night, investigators said.

Officers were sent to the home on Habersham Drive about 11 p.m. after the Fayetteville Police Department received a call about an intruder, the agency said in a news release.

“Several residents reported that an adult male was yelling aggressively and banging on houses in the neighborhood,” the release said.

When they arrived, police found the body of a man who had been shot to death on the back porch.

Investigators said the man had “reportedly attempted to gain entry” to the home. A resident of the home shot him during the incident, police said.

No charges are anticipated in the case. An investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Fayetteville police Detective Tyler Simpson at 770-719-4226.
