An inquisitive toddler caused quite a scare in his Henry County apartment complex Monday. But after an hours-long search, the 2-year-old was found safe.

After apparently climbing out an open window of his ground-floor apartment around 11 a.m., little Amari Mason Anderson wandered into a neighbor’s home in the Preston Creek Apartments, police said.

But that neighbor had no idea the boy was there, according to Sgt. Joey Smith with Henry County police. And the neighbor left to run errands, Smith said.

“When she returned to the home, he was inside crying,” Smith said.

Amari was found around 3 p.m., according to police. The child was upset, but otherwise fine, Smith said. Officers do not believe there was any criminal activity, but planned to follow up with the child’s mother and the neighbor.

“We’re just very relieved that he was found safe,” Smith said.
