The estranged wife of former big league pitcher Kris Benson was heavily armed Sunday night when she broke into his Cobb County apartment demanding $30,000, police said.

Officers arrived at the apartment in the 1160 block of Drewsbury Court to find Anna Benson, star of the VH-1 reality series, “Baseball Wives,” wearing a bullet proof vest and an ammunition belt containing several rounds. She had a “Batman” knife inside her waistband, a police-issue baton in her hands and a revolver in her purse, according to the incident report.

She was charged with two counts of felony aggravated assault with a weapon, one count of criminal trespass and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Her husband, who was hiding in the woods when Smyrna police officers arrived early Sunday evening, said Anna Benson had threatened him with the gun after smashing a computer with her baton.

“She said that she was angry and thought about hitting him,” one of the responding officers wrote in the report. Anna Benson initially told police she had reached for her gun when demanding the $30,000 from her husband but later changed her statement to say she wasn’t holding the firearm at the time.

The former model remains at Cobb County Jail. She was in court on Monday and denied bond, said Kim Isaza, spokeswoman for Cobb County District Attorney Vic Reynolds.

Her attorney will be able to request another hearing on the subject of bond, but, as of Wednesday, the district attorney’s office had not been notified that she had hired a lawyer, Isaza said.

Anna Benson, 37, told officers she didn’t think she did anything wrong “and didn’t understand why we were making such a big deal out of this,” according to the report.

Benson, 38, a former standout at Sprayberry High School who pitched for five major league organizations from 1999 to 2010, said he feared for his safety. “He said she was screaming and out of control,” the report states, and was thumping her vest with the expandable baton.

Anna Benson said she had to wear the vest in order to get it to “mold to her body,” according to police.

The couple, who met in 1998 married in 1999, have three children together. Anna Benson told The New Yorker in a 2005 interview that the couple met when she was a dancer at a Atlanta strip club.
