Beginning Oct. 1, Gwinnett’s contractor building the new Interstate 85 interchange at Ga. 324/Gravel Springs Road will be paving the ramp tie-ins at night over the next three weekends.

Assuming the weather cooperates, E.R. Snell Contractor, Inc. will need those weekends, through Oct. 17, to complete asphalt paving. The work involves closing an outside travel lane and the shoulder on I-85 to safely complete this phase of the project.

Work will begin along the southbound shoulder of I-85 just outside Buford city limits from 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, through 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 4. The contractor will then shift over to complete the northbound work the following weekend from 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 8. through 6 a.m. Monday, Oct.11.

Gwinnett Commissioners approved a construction agreement with the Georgia Department of Transportation in mid-2019 for the new interchange.

The project includes four new ramps from Gravel Springs Road, with turn lanes and traffic signals, sidewalks, sound barriers and retaining walls. The project is funded by local, state and federal funds. The entire project is expected to be complete in mid-2022.
