Fayette County’s government will not object to a request by Peachtree City to annex and rezone property off Ga. 54 West opposite Sumner Road. The Board of Commissioners voted 5-0 on Sept. 9 to allow the process to move forward after the city asked to annex the Longboat subdivision and seven other small properties, which it wants to also rezone from R-40 to R-43 (single-family residences with minimum 1-acre lots) and office-institutional use. The county’s deadline to object had been Sept. 19.

Fayette Planning and Zoning Director Pete Frisina told the BOC that the city wants to annex the property to facilitate a better multi-use path connection between the subdivision and adjacent parcels that will be developed by the city, and avoiding having an “island” of county property. The county will still provide water to the subdivision, and Frisina said there was no other material burden that would result from the annexation. Peachtree City will hold public hearings on the rezoning at the Oct. 7 city council meeting.
